Biographical Text
Melanie Oppenhejm, was a Danish women's rights activist, who worked for the “Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom”. Before the outbrake of WWII they managed to help around 320 children (around 80 of those from Czechoslovakia) to flee to Denmark.
Melanie Oppenhejm was transported to Terezín (Theresienstadt) Ghetto together with her husband Morits and two of her children, Ralph and Ellen, on October 14th 1943.
Melanie Oppenhejm and her family survived the war. In 1981 Oppenhejm wrote a book about the life in Terezín Ghetto.
