A „Náci és nyilas rémtettek kivizsgálására alakult bizottság”-ból folyó hó 23-án, 24-én és 25-én részt vettem a Maros utca 16. számú kórház kertjében, továbbá a Városmajor parkban két helyen lévő tömegsírok feltárásánál. Az exhumálásokra vonatkozó jelentésemet a következőkben teszem meg:
Folyó hó 23-án a Farkasréti köztemetőből kirendelt 10 sírásó és a községi temetkezési intézet által kiküldött 10 alkalmazott segítségével feltártuk a Maros utcai kórház kertjében lévő tömegsírt. A sír feltárásánál jelen voltak a Bizottság részéről Bechtler Péter alpolgármester, dr. Gyimesi Károly ev. lelkész, dr. Ádám Lajos, dr. Frigyesi, dr. Balogh és dr. Bubits orvosprofesszorok, az izraelita hitközség megbízottai, a népügyészség részéről dr. Óhidy ügyész, a Nemzeti Bizottság részéről Tóth László titkár, az orvosok szakszervezete részéről dr. Kaczander. Megjelentek az orosz propagandaosztály részéről Sík főhadnagy, továbbá fotó és filmriporterek, valamint a sajtó képviselői. Az agnoszkálást, illetve a boncolást dr. Tamáska Lóránt törvényszéki orvostani tanársegéd végezte. A tömegsírból 84 holttest került elő, mégpedig 40 férfi és 44 nő. Az agnoszkálás során ezek legnagyobb részét a hozzátartozók felismerték. Erre vonatkozó pontos névsort a temetkezést intéző Chevra Kadisa fogja rendelkezésünkre bocsájtani.
A kiszedett holttestek elszállítására azonban sem ezen a napon, sem az ezt követő napokon, de még f. hó 25-én reggelig sem került sor. A temetkezési intézet ugyanis szám szerint 84 holtesthez csak 49 koporsót tudott biztosítani. Ezért még aznap délután felkerestem a budai temetkezési intézetnél dolgozó Dornbach urat, aki az exhumálással kapcsolatos temetkezési ügyeket intézi, hogy őt a még hiányzó koporsók mielőbbi szállítására felhívjam. Dornbach úr ígéretet tett arra, hogy 24-én a hiányzó koporsókat, továbbá a 24-én felbontásra kerülő sírokban lévő halottak részére 25 koporsót fog kiszállíttatni. Ezt az ígéretet 24-én délelőtt, amikor is az exhumálások színhelyén megjelent, újból megerősítette, azonban a koporsók ennek ellenére sem érkeztek meg. Időközben a Chevra Kadisa is tudott több koporsóról gondoskodni, így a 23-án kihantolt holttestek közül kb. 20 kivételével most már valamennyi koporsóban van. A koporsók elszállítására azonban még csak részben került sor, mert a temetkezési intézet szállítási eszköz hiánnyal küzd.
F. hó 24-én kedden reggel felbontottuk a Bíró szanatóriumban kivégzett és a Városmajor parkban a futóárokban eltemetett halottak sírját. E sírban 11 férfi és 14 női, összesen tehát 25 holttest került elő. Közülük 16 nagyrészt elégett. Az agnoszkálás során egy-kettőt hozzátartozóik felismertek. Ugyanezen a nap felbontottuk a Szamos utca sarkán lévő tömegsírt. E tömegsírban az Alma utcai szeretetház legyilkolt lakói voltak eltemetve. Itt szám szerint 21 holttestet találtunk, melyek közül 5 férfi, 15 nő és 1 gyermek. Agnoszkálásuk során csaknem valamennyit felismerték hozzátartozói. A temetkezési intézet által a sírok felbontásához ígért koporsók sem érkeztek meg. Így a holttesteket részben a Chevra által rendelkezésre bocsájtott koporsókban, részben koporsó nélkül a Maros utcai kórház kertjébe szállíttattam és ott külön-külön helyeztettem el. Innen szállítják azután el őket, ha megfelelő mennyiségű koporsó és megfelelő fuvar áll a temetkezési intézet rendelkezésére.
A mai napon, azaz április 25-én reggel ½ 8 órakor akartuk kibontani a Városmajor u. 37. szám alatti ház parkjában lévő sírt. A sírban a jegyzőkönyvek tanúsága szerint kb. 50 holttest van.
A Farkasréti temetőből kiküldött 10 sírásó jelenlétében megállapítottuk a sír pontos helyét, továbbá azt, hogy a sírra az utóbbi időben igen nagy mennyiségű szemét került. A szomszéd házak lakóinak előadása szerint a szemét között hadianyag is van, ezért a sírásók – életveszélyre való tekintettel a sír feltárását nem vállalták, illetve vállalják, ha a szemetet a sírról előbb elhordatják. Erre vonatkozólag csatolom a sírásók megbízottjának nyilatkozatát. A nyilatkozat alapján őket reggel 9 órakor azzal az utasítással küldtem el, hogy eredeti munkahelyükön a Farkasréti temetőben jelentkezzenek.
Megérkeztek a temetkezési intézet alkalmazottai is, azonban koporsót ez alkalommal sem hoztak. Csoportvezetőjük állítása szerint a náluk lévő kocsival most akarnak elmenni a beígért koporsókért. Ezek alapján, egészségügyi szempontok figyelembevételével a tömegsírok további feltárását beszüntettem. Erről szóbelileg értesítettem a rendőrkarhatalmat vezető rendőrsegédfogalmazót, valamint az ortodox és a neológ Chevra Kadisa kiküldötteit. A népügyészségtől kiküldött ügyész, továbbá dr. Tamáska Lóránt egyetemi tanársegéd még nem tartózkodtak ott, ezért őket a Városmajor u. 39. sz. házban lévő rendőrőrszobában hagyott levéllel értesítettem.
Az exhumálások beszüntetésére azért volt szükség, mert a tegnap előtt és a tegnap exhumált összesen 130 holttestből részben koporsóban, de nagyrészt koporsó nélkül még kb. 100 van a Maros utcai kórház kertjében. Elszállításuk koporsó hiány és szállítási nehézségek következtében igen lassan halad. Ha az eddigi ütemben folyik tovább, akkor legfeljebb a hét végére kerülnek temetőbe. Szükségtelen tehát, hogy a Városmajor u. 37. számú házban, továbbá a Németvölgyi út 5. számú házban lévő tömegsírokat feltárjuk, s az exhumált holttesteket addig temetetlenül hagyjuk. A további exhumálásokra csak akkor kerüljön sor, ha a már exhumált holttesteket elszállítják, továbbá, ha a feltárandó sírok halottai részére megfelelő mennyiségű koporsó és fuvar rendelkezésre áll. Ezek biztosítása érdekében feltétlenül kapcsolatot kell keresni a temetkezési intézet vezetőjével, hogy budai kirendeltségét úgy utasítsa, hogy a környék lakosságára ártalmas holttesteket a Maros utcai kórház kertjéből azonnal szállíttassa el.

Report.
I participated on behalf of the “Committee for the Investigation of Nazi and Arrow Cross Atrocities” on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of current month, in the recovery of mass graves at the hospital’s garden in Maros-street Nr. 16, as well as at two places in the Városmajor park. My report concerning the exhumations is the following:
On the 23rd of current month we excavated the mass grave in the Maros-street hospital’s garden with the help of the 10 grave-diggers assigned from the Farkasréti public cemetery and the 10 employees delegated from the municipal funeral institute. At the recovery of the grave Péter Bechtler vice mayor on behalf of the Committee, dr. Károly Gyimesi Lut[heran]. pastor, dr. Lajos Ádám, dr. Frigyesi, dr. Balogh and dr. Bubits medical professors, the representatives of the Jewish community, Óhidy prosecutor on behalf of the People's Prosecutor's Office, László Tóth secretary on behalf of the National Committee, dr. Kaczander on behalf of the union of physicians, were present. First lieutenant Sík [Sándor Ék], furthermore photo- and film reporters, as well as press correspondents have appeared on behalf of the Russian propaganda department. The identification, as well as the autopsy was performed by dr. Lóránt Tamáska assistant lecturer of forensic medicine. 84 dead bodies were recovered from the mass grave, namely 40 men and 44 women. During the identification process, most of them were recognised by the relatives. The accurate list of names in this regard will be placed by the burial administer Chevra Kadisha at our disposal.
Nevertheless the transportation of the removed dead bodies was not made either on that day or the following days, but not even until the morning of 25th of c[urrent]. month. Since the funeral institute could provide only 49 coffins for the 84 dead bodies, by number. Therefore that very afternoon I went to Mr. Dornbach - who is working at the funeral institute in Buda and manages matters in regard of the exhumation – to call upon the transportation of the missing coffins as soon as possible. Mr. Dornbach made a promise that on the 24th he will make the missing coffins [transported], furthermore he will make 25 coffins transported for the dead in the graves to be recovered on the 24th. On the forenoon of the 24th he reconfirmed this promise when he appeared at the scene of the exhumations, nonetheless the coffins did not arrive. Meanwhile the Chevra Kadisha was able to have arranged more coffins, thus now all the bodies that were exhumed on the 23rd are placed in coffins with the exception of ca. 20. The transportation of coffins has only taken place partially, because the funeral institute has a shortage of means of transport.
Tuesday morning on the 24th of current month we exhumed the graves of those who were executed in the Bíró sanatorium, and who were buried in the Városmajor park. From this grave 11 men and 14 women, so all together 25 dead bodies were uncovered. Of these, 16 are for the most part burned away. During the identification some of them were recognized by their relatives. On the very same day we opened up the mass grave at the corner of Szamos-street. In this mass grave were buried the murdered residents of the Alma-street nursing home. Here by number, 21 dead bodies were found, from which are 5 men, 15 women and one child. During their identification almost every one of them were recognised by their relatives. The promised coffins from the funeral institute for the exhumation of these graves did not arrive. Thus I’ve had transported the dead bodies partially in the coffins provided by the Chevra, partially without coffin, into the garden of the Maros-street hospital, and I’ve had placed them separately there. They will be transported from here; if there will be enough coffins and means of transport available for the funeral institute.
Today, so on the morning of 25th of April 8:30 in the morning we wanted to open the grave in the park of the house at Városmajor-street Nr. 37. According the records, there are 50 dead bodies in this grave.
We identified the exact location of the grave in the presence of the 10 grave diggers sent from the Farkasréti cemetery; furthermore we learned that recently the grave was covered with a lot of garbage. According to the residents of the surrounding houses, there is also dangerous war material amongst the garbage, so the grave diggers –refused to exhume the grave bearing the life danger in mind, or they will only if the garbage would be cleaned from the grave first. On this matter I attach the statement of the gravediggers’ representative. After this statement, 9 in the morning I ordered them to present themselves at their original workplace in the Farkasréti cemetery.
The employees of the funeral institute have been arrived as well, but they brought any coffins this time neither. According to their group leader they want to go now for the promised coffins with the car being with them. Based on these, with the consideration of health concerns I ceased the further openings of the mass graves. I reported this orally to the police assistant drafter who is leading the police-armed force, as well as the representatives of the orthodox, and of the neolog Chevra Kadisha. The prosecutor sent from the People's Prosecutor's Office, furthermore dr. Loránt Tamáska university assistant lecturer were not yet there, so I informed them in a letter which I left at the police station in the house on the Városmajor-street Nr. 39. The cessation of exhumations was necessary, because ca. 100 from the all together 130 dead bodies, that were exhumed the days before yesterday and yesterday can still be found in the Maros-street hospital’s garden partially in coffins, but mostly without coffins. Their transportation is going slowly due to the shortage of coffins and due to the difficulties with the means of transport. If the process will go at a same pace, than they will be placed in the cemetery at most until the end of the week. Thus it is unnecessary to open the mass graves in the house at the Városmajor-street Nr. 37, and in the house at the Németvölgyi-street Nr. 5, and leave the exhumed dead bodies unburied until then. The further exhumation would take place only if the already exhumed dead bodies would be transported; furthermore, if there will be sufficient number of coffins and transport available for the dead from the graves to be exhumed. In order to ensure these things, it is absolutely necessary to sought contact with the head of the burial institution, that he his branch office in Buda should order so, that he for the area’s population harmful dead bodies, from the garden of Maros-street hospital get immediately transported.
Please take notice of my report and take actions accordingly please.
